Particularities and universality

With Nuri Bilge Ceylan at the top of the list, a generation of Turkish authors in their forties today have, for the past ten years, drawn international critical attention. Réha Erdam, Zéki Démirkubuz, Yesim Ustaoglu and Samih Kaplanoglu have lead younger filmmakers in their wake such as Ahmat Uluçay and Seifi Teoman, the strength of whose work subscribes to the dynamics engaged in by their elders.

Born of different horizons, using a variety of cinematographic processes, the link between these filmmakers is perhaps the search for the right equilibrium between their ties to Turkey’s history and a faculty to transcend their particularities and access universality at the same time.

Faithful to the tradition of scouting out other trends in film-making instituted by our predecessors, we wish, with this anthology of Turkish cinema, to offer the Tunisian audience a window onto the best of a cinematography that demonstrates great vitality today.
