Synopsis

In a popular suburb of Dakar, workers on the construction site of a futuristic tower, without pay for months, decide to leave the country by the ocean for a better future. Among them is Suleiman, Ada’s lover, and she is promised to be married to another man.

Mati Diop

Mati Diop is a French-Senegalese actress and filmmaker. Her debut feature film, "Atlantique" (2019), was selected for the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Grand Prix. The film was later shortlisted for the Oscars' Best International Feature Film category. Prior to this, she directed several medium and short films, including "Atlantiques" (2009), "Snow Canon" (2011), "Big in Vietnam" (2012), "Mille Soleils" (2013), and "In My Room" (2020), which were also selected and awarded at numerous international festivals. As an actress, Mati Diop appeared in Claire Denis's "35 Rhums" (2008), Antonio Campos's "Simon Killer" (2012), Benjamin Crotty's "Fort Buchanan" (2014), Matias Piñeiro's "Hermia y Helena" (2016), and her latest short film, "In My Room."
