Since 1984, fonds Sud Cinema has been supporting cinematographic diversity in the world. Financed by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Communication (Le Centre National de la Cinematographie et de L'image Animée),this selective grant has funded the production of more than 500 feature films from Africa, Latin America, Asia, the Near and Middle East and, since 1997 from some Eastern European countries. (see list of eligible countries).

The support is attributed exclusively to feature films that will be released in movie theatres (fiction, animation or documentaries.) made by directors from Southern countries and shot mainly in the eligible geographic zone.

A selection committee composed of film professionals meets 4 times a year to examine the submissions. 20 to 25 projects are supported every year.
