Synopsis

Timbuktu is silent. The religious fundamentalists are spreading terror in the region. In the dunes, away from the chaos, Kidane enjoying a quiet life must face the law of the new foreign rulers determined to defeat an open and tolerant Islam.

Director's biography


Abderrahmane Sissako is a Mauritanian filmmaker and producer who directed Life on Earth, Waiting for Happiness (Hérémakono). In 2014, his last film Timbuktu was part of the official selection at Cannes and won the François Chalais Award and the Ecumenical Jury Prize.
