Katsuya Tomita

Born in 1972 in the city of Kofu, Japan, Katsuya Tomita worked, after graduating from high school, as a construction worker and a truck driver, saving his money to make films. For three years, using an 8mm camera, he spent his weekends making his first film, Above the Clouds (2003). With the award he won for this film, he shot Off Highway 20 (2007), using 16mm film. In 2008, he started Saudade (2011) in his hometown. The film was selected in Locarno International Film Festival and won the Golden Montgolfiere Award at the 3 Continents Film Festival in France. Bangkok nites (2016) was selected in several international festivals and won the Junior Jury Award in Locarno International Film Festival and the Critics Award at the Japanese Film Festival Kinotayo. 4 retrospectives were dedicated to Katsuya Tomita’s works worldwide.

Gaston Kaboré

Gaston Kaboré is a director, screenwriter, producer, and teacher trainer from Burkina Faso. After studying history and cinema, he began his career as a filmmaker in 1976. He directed four feature-length fiction films highly acclaimed by critics, festivals and audiences: Wend Kuuni (1982), Zan Boko (1988), Rabi (1992), Buud Yam (1997). Wend Kuuni won the silver Tanit at the Carthage Film Festival in 1982 and the César of Best French Speaking Film in France in 1985, Zan Boko is silver Tanit of the Carthage Film Festival in 1988. Buud Yam was awarded the grand prize Etalon of Yennenga at the FESPACO 1997. Activist and militant, he headed the National Film Center of Burkina Faso from 1977 to 1988 and the Panafrican Federation of Filmmakers from 1985 to 1997. In 2003, he founded the Imagine Institute in Ouagadougou, a structure for continuing education and advanced training in the field of cinema.
