Ousmane William MBAYE - Senegal

Synopsis

Mamadou Dia, president of the Senegal Council, is arrested and given a life sentence, accused of fomenting a coup d’etat by Léopold Sedar Senghor. The next day, the Constitution is changed and a Presidential system replaces a Parliamentary one, giving Senghor full powers. Fifty years later, during the 2012 presidential campaign, witnesses to the events of 1962 speak out.

Back in Dakar he was assistant director to several well-known film-makers. In 1979 he produced and directed his first short film, L’enfant de Ngatch (JCC’s Bronze Tanit); from 2000 on he turned to documentaries, directing films about public figures to revive the cultural and political memory of Senegal, especially President Dia (2012 JCC’s Golden Tanit).
