Synopsis

In a Copenhagen-based shelter, women and children are slowly recovering from domestic abuse; helped by the staff, they build up their confidence and try to understand how to break the cycle of violence. What will the future bring? How can they avoid falling back into the arms of their violent partners? How can they build new lives for themselves and their children?

Born in 1971, she studied Literature and Film/Media Studies at Copenhagen University, then trained at the European Film College and the NY Film Academy. Now chairwoman of the Danish Film Directors Union, she made Stargazer (2002), Triple Dare (2006) and Power over Love (2004). The Idealist (2015) probed secrecy and international politics. Violently in Love is her third feature documentary.
