Born in Poland, in 1998 he made his first feature film The Stringer. Ida (2013), his first film made in Poland, won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2015. Cold War was in the official selection at the 2018 Cannes Festival, winning the Prize for Best Director.
