Synopsis

This is the story of a meeting between Lazzaro, a young peasant so good that people think he’s simple-minded, and Tancredi, an arrogant young nobleman who is bored stiff in the isolated village of Inviolata. Their friendship is sealed when Tancredi amuses himself by asking Lazzaro to help him undertake his own kidnapping. Their sincere and joyous relationship is a revelation for Lazzaro.

Born in Tuscany, Alice Rohrwacher graduated from Torino University in Literature and Philosophy. She directed a part of the collective feature film Checosamanca. Corpo Celeste was her feature length writing and directing debut. Happy as Lazzaro won the Award for Best Screenplay (tied) at Cannes 2018. An Australian paramedic, author and director.
