Since 2014, Takmil workshop, Finishing in Arabic, is conceived as a platform that presents African and Arab feature films in the phase of post-production to international the film industry.

The 6 th edition of Takmil will be held from October 28 to 30, 2019. For three days, the screenings of the selected works in progress will be followed by a discussion between the duos director / producer with a carefully chosen international jury.

These discussions are intended to propose constructive and inspiring exchanges for the finishing of their films. On October 30, the jury awards grants for post production to the films they consider the most promising. This year, we received about sixty films from 18 countries, mostly documentaries. The predominance of this genre will be discussed as part of the documentary day, Carthage Docs.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome 8 films from Burkina Faso, Egypt, Kenya, Lebanon, Madagascar, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Tunisia. Eight cinematographic proposals featuring characters evolving in often difficult realities, and who continue to struggle for dignity. Eight journeys in distressing universes that manage to have a universal echo.

In addition, this edition of the JCC presents in the Official Competition 5 debut films that were part of Takmil. Three documentaries: Offside Khartoum by Marwa Zein (Sudan), Fathallah TV by Wided Zoghlami (Tunisia) and A home of one’s own by Ruba Aatyeh (Lebanon) and two fiction films: Certified Mail by Hisham Saqr (Egypt) and Haifa Street by Mohanad Hayal (Iraq). This reinforces our conviction of the importance of the accompaniment offered, over the years, by Chabaka and Takmil workshops.

Many thanks to our six loyal partners who offer cash and post-production grants : Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image, International Organization of Francophonie, International Media Support, International Organization for Migration, LaserFilm and HAKKA Distribution. We are honored this year to receive a new grant offered by Charbon Studio.

Good luck to our filmmakers and long live the cinema !
