Synopsis

The film starts in a poor neighborhood on the outskirts of Tunis, where most young people suffer from unemployment and frustration. Mehrez, an unemployed 25 year-old, is determined to obtain access to culture for young people from deprived districts. The system is too difficult to stand up to except through religious extremism or artistic creativity.

Statement of intent

Young Tunisians lived through the second Intifada, September 11th, the conquest of Iraq... They have seen other young people defending their rights to existence and to dignity. They went through all of this in front of the television, in silence and every time they wanted to go out into the streets, they were repressed. Thus, there was the general feeling of being powerless. However, no one can speak of some of the important men and women because they have been exiled from their own country....

Biography

Hamza Ouni is a Tunisian film director, He began undergraduate film studies at the «Institut Maghrébin du Cinema», and then continued his training at the School of Arts and Cinema in Tunis where he specialized in writing and filmmaking Filmography : The Truth in black and white : First short fiction film, independent, 2006 El Gort : First feature length.
