Synopsis

Set in Mohammedia, Tunisia, the film retraces 12 years of Mehrez’s life, a gifted dancer and actor, addicted to gambling and horse racing. He struggles against himself and against the disarming contradictions of his country. In his tireless quest for sincere emotions, Mehrez defies all the rules.

Hamza Ouni

Born in 1975 in Mohammedia, where he still resides, Hamza Ouni is a Tunisian filmmaker. He starts his undergraduate studies at the North African Film Institute. He then continues his training at the School of Arts and Cinema in Tunis, where he specialises in film writing and directing. He has participated in many screenwriting workshops (DOCmed, DOC Campus, Sud Ecriture, Green House...). His first feature documentary film, El Gort, which had its world premiere at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, won the award for Best Filmmaker from the Arab World as well as the FIPRESCI award. He also won the Talent Dove in 2014 at DOK festival in Leipzig and the Bronze Tanit at Carthage Film Festival. El Medestansi (Le Disqualifié) is his second feature documentary.
