Synopsis:
A rumor spreads in a village in Algeria, Hadjer is forced to flee the village with her son, Djamil. It is the beginning of a tormented survival in the big city. Pressured, Hadjer will have to fight to protect herself and above all to preserve her son whose adolescent impulses sound like a danger...

 

Statement of intent :
This neoralistic project pictures the violent opposition between the Algerian traditional rural environment and the modern coastline and its temptations. Our characters will have to adapt to this new world. Beyond the mother/son relationship, each has his own path and suffers the misery that falls on him differently but with the same violence.

Anis Djaad (Director )
Born in Algiers in 1974, Anis Djaad discovered cinema as an intern on a first Algerian feature film. In 1997, he became a journalist for the daily “Le Soir” and embraced this career for 14 years in several national newspapers. Since 2011, returning to the cinema, he has directed 3 short films “Le Hublot”, “Passage à level” and “Le voyage de Keltoum” presented and awarded in numerous international festivals.


Moncef Dellici (Producer)
He was born in Algiers, Algeria, on April 25, 1978. He studied image and production management at EICAR Paris and FEMIS. He was accredited as cameraman by the Ministry of Communication for APTN 2009/2010 after which he participated as production manager and line producer to numerous advertisements, documentaries, shorts and feature films. In 2012, he created Alegria Production in Algiers, where he develops his own projects (feature/short films and documentaries).

Synopsis:
After more than a decade, Farah (31) returns to her hometown Tripoli in Lebanon only to find her city and country in crisis. Staying with her widowed aging father Mustapha (83) Farah realizes that this is her last chance to reach out to him before it’s too late.

 

Statement of intent :
Joining my father’s poetry club is my last and only chance as a daughter and a filmmaker to better understand my elderly father and his friends before it’s too late. It’s an opportunity to make a conversation, only possible through poetry, between two generations. Revealing milieus and bonds that are often inaccessible.

Farah Kassem (Director )
Born in Tripoli, Lebanon, Farah graduated with a bachelor’s degree in audiovisual studies from ALBA University and subsequently obtained a master’s degree in documentary at DocNomads in Portugal, Hungary and Belgium. Her short documentaries have taken part in Visions du Réel, the Warsaw Film Festival, DOK Leipzig, and the Dubai International Film Festival. She is currently working on her feature documentary, We Are Inside. Her documentaries explore the themes of identity, time, love and separation.


Cynthia Choucair (Producer)
Born in Lebanon, Cynthia graduated from ALBA in 1998 and obtained a Masters in Film Direction from Iesav-USJ in 2002. In 2007, she founded her production company, Road2films. Her filmography includes films that have competed in prestigious international festivals including IFFR, Sheffield DocFest, RIDM and FidMarseille. Cynthia is a member of the Lebanese Cultural Association of Beirut DC.

Synopsis:
After 1994 Tutsi genocide, a handicapped man together with his Japanese wife decided to create the first and only orthopedic workshop factory. When the memory and Tutsi genocide aftermaths including many casualties and disabled people were still alive, Gatera‘s organization, that started in 1996, has become effective to the country’s huge demands of making prostheses for locals. The film retraces and recounts the journey of an outstanding man who saw his life turn into becoming a prosthetist.

As Gatera my main character is a big profile in Rwanda, I was motivated by his story as a film director, I decided to make a documentary film about his story hoping that it could inspire many people especially African youths.

His documentary film “CARVER”, was presented at Luxor African Film Festival 2018, selected at Zanzibar International Film Festival 2018 and at Durban International Film Festival 2019.

Remy Ryumugabe is a Rwandan filmmaker / visual artist. His works have been screened / exhibited around the world. He is co-directing his first docu-fiction feature “Kinema”. He is the co-founder of KIRURI MFN www.kirurimfn.com and he is also curator and co-founder of the ciné-club “250 film Experiment Ciné-Club”.

Shema Deve is a Rwandan director and producer. He is the co-founder of KIRURI MFN. He is developing his first feature film “Black Widow”and has produced 4 films including “Kinema” and “Through the Unforeseen Wind” by Remy Ryumugabe, which was selected at the Ouaga producers Lab2020.

Ganza Moise (Co-Director)
Ganza Moise is an author of children” books and independent Rwandan filmmaker. Since 2015, he has directed more than 6 short films, his films have been screened in several film festivals around the world. He is co-directing his docu-fiction feature film “Kinema” with Ryumugabe Remy. His feature film in development ”Tears” won the award for best pitch at the Kigali Audio Visual Forum 2019 and was shortlisted for Ouaga Producers Lab 2020.

Amal is released after six months in prison for adultery. She is looking for her son in the world of the shallows and has to face a Tunisian society in free fall.

STREAMS is the interweaving of three themes that have always haunted me: family, guilt and redemption. Through them, I seek to describe and translate, in an economy of words and gestures, the complexity of the existence of a family.

Fedhila Moufida (Director )
Moufida Fedhila is a filmmaker and a producer. Her film “Aya” won the Golden Tanit for Best Short Fiction at the Carthage Film Festival and had an international success and a brilliant career. It won several awards in worldwide film festivals and was selected in more than 200 film festivals. She co-founded “Yol Film House” and produced several award-winning fiction and documentary films. At the 34th Vues d’Afrique International Film Festival in Montreal, she received a tribute for all her work. She lives and works between Tunis and Paris.


Mehdi Hmili (Producer)
Mehdi Hmili is a producer and a filmmaker. He co-founded “Yol Film House” and produced several award-winning fiction and documentary films. Cannes, Sydney, Milan, Clermont-Ferrand, Montréal, Paris, Los Angeles, Sarasota, Cape Town as well as at La Fabrique Cinéma of Cannes Film Festival, Qumra of Doha Film Institute, Cinelink of Sarajevo Film Festival. The company plays an active role in supporting Tunisian and international talents with strong potential for international coproduction and distribution. Mehdi Hmili is Torino Film Lab Alumni. He lives and works between Tunis and Paris.

Synopsis:
In todays Tunis, Nada is a young woman who leads a double life: lonely and boring during the day, violent and extreme during the night. This highly ritualised life is going to flatter the day she falls in love with an old knife and a colleague of her named Noura falls in love with her. The film is a Medusa myth inspired film noir in the #MeToo era.

Black Medusa is a rewrite of the ancient myth of the medusa in the era of #MeToo which will not fail to question in depth not only the society in which the story is inscribed and its taboos but also the cinehilic tradition it regenerates with a singular look: from French poetic realism to American independent cinema.

The film paints her portrait for 5 years and the journey of rehabilitation and reconstruction that she goes through.

We are making this film to relate the story of Siwar’s initiatory journey into his new life with his adoptive parents and his way of coming back to life with the theater. We’re not making this movie to tell about this girl’s past and make her a victim, we’re making this movie to give her back her dignity while watching her grow up.

Latifa Doghri (Director )
After studying French literature, Latifa Robbana Doghri first specialized in writing and editing children’s stories and then studied communication through image and multimedia. His first documentary “Boxe avec Elle” won awards at several festivals. She has completed her short film “The Gift” and is working on the post-production of her Feature film “Siwar”


Salem Trabelsi (Producer)
Salem Trabelsi (Machmoum production) holds a degree in communication and language sciences at the University of Mons (Belgium) after having obtained a master’s degree in French literature. Journalist and film critic for “Le Quotidien”, “La Presse de Tunisie”, he produced and co-directed with Latifa Doghri his first documentary “Boxe avec elle” (72 min) (Official selection DohaTribeca Film festival 2011, Faucon d’Or at the Arab Film Festival of Rotterdam 2012, Official selection African cinema festival Stockholm). In 2014, he produced his second feature documentary “Made in Gougou” (72 min) with which he won the prize for best documentary film at the African Film Festival at Luxor (Egypt). In 2017, he produced the documentary film “Sœurs courage” and the short fiction film “The Gift” by Latifa Doghri.
